From raging forest fires to devastating flash floods, there has been an escalation in dangerous environmental disasters around the world in the past few months. These events confirm the scientific studies foretelling an increase in the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events with the rise of human-induced climate change. The recent report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change came (IPCC) up with a call for drastic action to reverse the course of environmental degradation. The action needed to halt the impending disaster makes environmental activism more relevant. Bangladesh Environment Network (BEN) and its partner Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (BAPA) continue to work towards maintaining environmental sustainability and conserving diversity in Bangladesh, one of the countries most vulnerable to the adverse effects of global warming and sea level change. The ravaging pandemic of COVID-19 prompted BEN and BAPA to conduct many of their activities virtually. These events facilitated greater interaction among activists and experts around the world.
BEN expresses its deepest sympathies for the loss of lives and livelihood caused by the pandemic. Let us all hope science and sane policy will prevail in the fights against contagious diseases and climate disasters.

The Australia chapter of Bangladesh Environment Network observed Clean up Australia day. Kamrul Ahsan Khan, a founding member of BEN, gathered BEN activists at Glebe Park in Canberra where they joined locals to clean up the park.
