Announcement and Call for Papers

Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (BAPA) and Bangladesh Environment Network (BEN) are pleased to announce that the 4th International Conference on Bangladesh Environment (ICBEN) will be held on December 26-27, 2020. In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, it will be held in the virtual mode.

For more than two decades, BAPA and BEN, together with other pro-environment forces of the country, have waged a relentless campaign for the protection of Bangladesh environment. Many successes have been achieved. However, reversing the overall trend of environmental deterioration remains a challenge. As a part of this continued struggle, BAPA and BEN hold annual conferences on specific environmental issues that are supplanted by comprehensive international conferences, popularly abbreviated as ICBEN, every few years. An ICBEN covers all major issues of Bangladesh and global environment. The previous ICBENs were held in 2000, 2002, and 2010. Time has come to hold another ICBEN to take stock of the progress achieved so far and to chart out the course of action for the future as BAPA marks the 20th anniversary of its founding.

Scope and Topics of ICBEN 2020

Following preceding ICBENs, ICBEN 2020 too will have broad scopes and will include all major issues related to environment. The broad categories of topics for the conference are:

Climate Change and Disasters
Pollution and Treatment
Energy and Environment
Agriculture and Biodiversity
Rivers, Floodplains and Wetlands
Coastal and Marine Environment
Urban and Rural Planning
Economics and Finance
Grassroots/Social Movements
Governance and Civil Society

To have appropriate representation in the General Sessions, the conference organizers will reach out to various environmental organizations; conservation movements; political parties; professional organizations; trade unions; grassroots/civic organizations; organizations for women, youth, students; cultural and sports organizations; and other relevant organizations and individuals.

Organizers of the Conference

Also following the tradition of ICBENs, BAPA and BEN will invite all universities; environment-related other academic establishments; environmental organizations; conservation movements; and other pro-environment organizations, institutions, and establishments to join ICBEN-2020 as associate organizers.
