BEN Organizational Activities: Chapters and Panels

The second half of 2022 has seen a range of organizational activities attempting to. start or restore BEN chapters around the world. Md. Khalequzzaman, new GC of BEN, coordinated these efforts with active participation and guidance of other BEN organizers and leaders.

BEN founder Nazrul Islam helped organize several events in New York by the Tri-state (NY-NJ-CT) chapter of BEN, the most active among the BEN chapters. Led by chapter leaders Faruque Zaman and Rana Ferdous Chowdhury these events attracted large amount of local NRBS and were addressed, physically, by environmental activists from Bangladesh and the US. The chapter is planning to host a solidarity event during the upcoming Jan 13, 2023 Environmental Rally in Dhaka.

Nazrul Islam and Md Khalequzzaman drove to Toronto, in August to help a reorganization initiative for BEN, Canada. A committee was formed with Tito Khondoker, Azizul Huq and others.

A similar reorganization initiative revived BEN Southern US.  Atlanta based environmental activists Utpal Dutta and Murshadul Hakim Shuvro played key roles. The chapter is planning to host a discussion event on February 4, 2023.

Ahmed Badruzzaman, Dipen Bhattacharya and Mohammod Irfan started the process of forming a BEN Western US chapter.

BEN GC Khalequzzaman had conversations with various BEN leaders at the Washington DC metro and Virginia area during his summer 2022 trip to the area. Mahmud Farooq hosted a meeting at his DC office in early December 2022. Thos who joined include Hossain Azam, Kamal Chowdhury, Muhitur Rahman and Mohammod Irfan, who was visiting from California.

Saleh Tanveer, previous BEN GC, initiated an effort to restart BEN, UK and Europe. He met with Atiq Ahad, Pervez Haris and Mazharul Islam Rana, long time BEN activists and experts now living in the UK, during his sabbatical trip to Cambridge. 

Md. Khalequzzaman had some discussions with Swapan Paul on the activities of the Australia chapter of BEN, led energetically for long time now by Kamrul Ahsan Khan and Nilufar Islam.  

Ahmed Badruzzaman is leading a committee of several BEN IG members to reorganize BEN expert panels. The committee has prepared a report for submission to BEN IG.
