The Bangladesh Environment Network (BEN) is set to convene its 18th bi-monthly webinar on Saturday, February 14, 2026, addressing the urgent theme of “Waste Management in Bangladesh: Technical-Policy Challenges, and Way Forward”. Scheduled to run from 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM Dhaka time (11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Toronto/New York time), the event aims to dissect the persistent policy failures and technical barriers that have hindered effective waste management in the region. By bringing together a coalition of academic researchers, city officials, and development experts, the session promises to explore global best practices and chart actionable pathways for institutional reform.

The keynote presentations will be delivered by Dr. Hossain M. Azam, an Associate Professor of Environmental Engineering at the University of the District of Columbia, alongside Md. Sahariar Kabir Nion, a Research Assistant at the Water–Energy–Food–Climate Nexus Lab (Azam Research Group). Their technical insights will be complemented by a distinguished panel of practitioners who manage the capital’s waste infrastructure on the ground, including Commodore Mohammad Humayon Kabir, Chief Waste Management Officer of Dhaka North City Corporation, and Dr. Md. Sufiullah Siddik Bhuiyan, Project Director at Dhaka South City Corporation. Rounding out the panel with civil society perspectives will be Abu Hasnat Md. Maqsood Sinha, Executive Director of Waste Concern, as well as A.K.M. Shirajul Islam and Engr. Prince Dey Rony from the BASA Foundation. The session will be chaired by Dr. Dipen Bhattacharya, a retired Professor of Physics and Astronomy, and moderated by Dr. Sukomal Modak, the Chair of BEN’s Waste Management Expert Panel.
