Following their tradition, BAPA and BEN jointly held a special conference on “Bangladesh Haors, Rivers and Beels” on January 14, 2023 at the Department of Geography and Environment at the Kazi Motahar Hossain (Science Annex) Building of Dhaka University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. A large number of delegates from different parts of the country and abroad attended this conference. Besides, many delegates participated online. Among the participants in the conference were experts on various environmental issues on one hand and leaders of various branches of BAPA and activists and well-wishers of the environmental movement on the other. In the inaugural session of the conference, Planning Minister MA Mannan, MP was the chief guest at the conference. Former chairman of the National River Protection Commission Mujibur Rahman Howladar was the special guest. Saber Hossain Chowdhury, MP was the chief guest in the concluding session. Besides, ASM Maksud Kamal, Vice-Chancellor (Education), Dhaka University, participated in the conference. Delwar Hossain, Forest and Environment Affairs Editor, Bangladesh Awami League and other government officials also attended. Many prominent members of the intellectual circles of the country participated in the conference.
As many as 69 papers were presented in this conference in various combined and parallel expert sessions. These articles presented facts and research-based conclusions on water, river and bill issues. In addition, in this conference, in several parallel general sessions, leaders and workers from different parts of the country spoke on various issues of Haors, Rivers, Beels and Coastal areas of their respective localities.
