This edition marks the revival of the BEN Newsletter, renewing its focus on the intersection of environmental policy, activism, technical perspectives, and socio-economic realities in Bangladesh. The lead feature highlights the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (BAPA), where, in collaboration with BEN, a renewed call was made for the establishment of a dedicated environmental commission. We also recognize BAPA’s receipt of the prestigious Mark Angelo River Award. Addressing urgent water challenges, this issue covers the growing crisis of the Teesta River, including insights from BEN webinars and discussion meetings that urge a critical reassessment of the Teesta River Comprehensive Management and Recovery Plan in light of severe water scarcity and seasonal flooding. The newsletter further highlights expert dialogue on sustainable river governance, the revitalization of the Baral River following sluice gate removal, the launch of the BEN 2025 Fundraising Campaign, and the announcement of the National Conference on Environmental Reforms 2026. In addition, we acknowledge the National Environment Award 2024 conferred on BAPA Vice President Dr. M. Feroze Ahmed and introduce the analytical volume Teesta River in Crisis: What is the Path to Solution?. As we enter the New Year, BEN extends its warm wishes to all readers, supporters, and well-wishers for a resilient, environmentally just, and hopeful year ahead.
